To end Colleen's amazing 10 races for Zachary's 10th birthday project she organized and held a community 5k in his memory. This woman can seriously do anything she sets her mind to. She made an evite and invited all of her wonderful friends and family to come and attend. Everyone who came donated to her fundraising goal for Marley's Mission. She and Kenzy also made each attendee a blue star burst rainbow loom bracelet. <3
I always joke about having 2 1/2 friends. I'm such a home body and like to just chill and spend time with my family. The more and more I open my eyes I see how caring, loving and supporting everyone is. I'm so fortunate to have so many wonderful and beautiful friends in my life (many more than 2 1/2). I'm so thankful to Colleen for her spirit, love and commitment. She is such a beautiful person. Thank you Colleen for sharing so many great memories with me and being a big positive part of my life.
The race was special and just perfect. I saw a community come together to support a great cause, raise awareness for child abuse and remember my sweet little boy, Zachary.
As my kiddos are growing up, it's something special to witness the excitement both Kenzy and Liam have to do things in memory of their brother. Liam was so pumped for this 5K and he was excited to run his best for his big brother. Kenzy was able to have her friends with her as well. As a family we are doing things little by little to promote the spirit of awareness. All of the younger kids we affect will hopefully grow up with a greater awareness themselves.
At the end of April, Kenzy and I also signed up to run a local 5K for our areas Children's Advocacy Center, Safe Spot. For the month of April, we had done things to raise awareness for all of our students and families at our school. We decorated the Blue Ribbon Tree, shared lessons plans with teachers, made blue pinwheels, got a little blue in our hair ( :) ), held our 3rd annual PJs for Charity and had a Wear Blue Day. Kenzy and I thought we could run this race in Zachary's honor and wrap up Child Abuse Awareness Month with something special.
After we signed up two friends decided to join us! Heather, Courtney, Kenzy and I were a team. We ran for Zachary and made special shirts. I've said in earlier blogs, running is not my thing. I started because Kenzy enjoys it and I wanted to support her. It's been fun this year to run several 5Ks with her. The ones that have been the most fun were the ones we did for Zach. Thank you to Heather and Courtney for coming out to support and run with us. We really appreciated it! Courtney has even decided to run another race in memory of Zachary. She will be running the Relay for Life. <3 I love that Zachary has helped bring so many of us together. I'm so glad to have met both Heather and Courtney. They are both beautiful strong women, each having a tremendous heart. I look forward to more fun memories.
